Nonprofit Cyber Celebrates Its First Anniversary with Six New Members

BBB Institute for Marketplace Trust, Black Girls Hack, Building Cyber Security, Internet Safety Lab, the Global Anti Scam Alliance, and the Maritime Safety and Security Alliance have joined the coalition, adding to its diversity, equity and inclusion globally

New-York – February 23, 2023: Nonprofit Cyber, the coalition of nonprofit organizations that focus on raising the bar in cybersecurity, today celebrates its first anniversary. In a year, Nonprofit Cyber has grown to thirty-seven members strong, with six new organizations joining: BBB Institute for Marketplace Trust, Black Girls Hack, Building Cyber Security, Internet Safety Lab, the Global Anti Scam Alliance, and the Maritime Safety and Security Alliance.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of the coalition since its launch – only with inclusion can we best serve Internet users globally. These new members strengthen Nonprofit Cyber’s mission to build a strong cybersecurity ecosystem by addressing a new range of cybersecurity challenges.

“Cybersecurity underpins our economy and every social interaction, and no single entity can see the entire problem or shape the improvements we need,” said Tony Sager, Senior VP and Chief Evangelist of the Center for Internet Security. “That’s why the members of Nonprofit Cyber have chosen to bring our skills, energy, and diverse reach together in service of a common mission, and why we continue to bring in new coalition members. Together we have an unprecedented opportunity to make major improvements in cybersecurity – for every individual, and for every enterprise.”

Nonprofit Cyber launched its Nonprofit Cyber Solutions Index, the first comprehensive index of cybersecurity capabilities provided by nonprofit organizations globally. The index identifies a large selection of free or low-cost cybersecurity capabilities for the most vulnerable and underserved communities of Internet users. It includes 120 solutions from 23 of its members. With the expansion of the coalition, the number and capacities of the Solutions Index will grow.

“Nonprofit Cyber has had an exciting year, and looks forward to even more in 2023,” said Philip Reitinger, co-chair of Nonprofit Cyber and CEO of the Global Cyber Alliance. “Nonprofit Cyber will continue to grow to represent new cybersecurity challenges and audiences, and bring its members to bear to work jointly and in alignment on big problems that no one can solve alone.”

Nonprofit Cyber continues building awareness of the work of cybersecurity nonprofits globally and aligning their work to achieve the greatest effect. Two actions to highlight in particular for the coming year are the representation of Nonprofit Cyber at the RSA Conference in April 2023, and the upcoming set-up and implementation of a “World More Than A Password Day” planned for later this year, helping companies and individuals raise standards and enforce more than a simple password to protect accounts.

About NonProfit Cyber
Nonprofit Cyber is a first-of-its-kind coalition of global nonprofit organizations to enhance joint action to improve cybersecurity. All members are nonprofits that serve the public interest by developing, sharing, deploying, and increasing the awareness of cybersecurity best practices, tools, standards, and services.

There are many actors dedicated to building a safer Internet around the world and there has sometimes been a lack of coordination between them. Nonprofit Cyber focuses on uniting and mapping nonprofits globally to enhance coordination and visibility, by offering a better understanding of who does what in the cybersecurity space to those who seek keeping their online platforms secure and reliable.
